The Schwa sound (/ə/) is the laziest sound 🛌
🤗 Join The Club: www.englishlanguageclub.co.uk/join/
Hello there.
So, in this video we are going to practice the /ə/ Vowel sound. It is often called the Schwa sound, but I don’t like to call it the schwa sound and I will tell you why later.
It’s a very lazy sound. It’s very common in English because it is very neutral, so in natural speech, as we weaken other vowel sounds they move towards this sound.
Here are some common words that use this sound;
About: /əˈbaʊt/
Alone: /əˈləʊn/
Along: /əˈlɒŋ/
Another: /əˈnʌðə/
Banana: /bəˈnænə/
Comma: /ˈkɒmə/
Father: /ˈfɑːðə/
Mother: /ˈmʌðə/
Remember: /rɪˈmɛmbə/
It is technically called the “Mid-Central Vowel”. It is a very neutral sound. Your mouth is neither open o...

    Nice video, but I was thrown off every time he said "pro*noun*ciation" instead of "pro*nun*ciation" In my personal English teaching experience, that's a mistake a lot of people make, and I'm always embarrassed when I accidentally say it to my student. In this video he said it about 20 times (it was the main topic of the video)! As he said, it's good to have someone to correct you when you make a mistake, that's how we keep learning. So I wanted to just mention it here for anyone watching the video! The correct pronunciation of pronunciation is pronunciation. Edit: I saw another comment someone responded to where they say that "pronounciation" is the "common way" it's pronounced. I disagree; to me it just sounds incorrect, and in the context of the video, ironic. Maybe it's a British English thing. In American English, I wouldn't teach it to be said that way, and I would probably correct a student who said it that way...But it just goes to show there are a lot of ways to be right and wrong in English speaking, and it helps not to be too nitpicky.

    Quite a few sounds are mispronounced in this video, for example 'n' in pronounced with the schwa sound (see the upside down e symbol) , so is 'r', 'm', 'y' 'w', dz, j, and the 'ng' sound is mispronounced as 'ing'.

    Why do the english speakers use their alphabet instead this ones signs? Because the letters were invented for the wrighting down the ###ing sounds not for guessing how the word sounds every time.
